TAKE HEART
To escape the day’s news
of chaos and cruelty
I shut down my computer
and turned to the window
long before sunrise
to watch a thunderstorm
rolling in from the west.
Lightening illuminated
the wind-bent oaks
with proof of rain had only
in a ribbon of faint light
reflected on the pavement.
Be joyful in these things,
and all else must pass.
