So Much Depends on One’s Perspective

(More Poems from Savannah)

PERPSECTIVES: a suite

i.
A boy and a girl in kindergarten
both told me they loved me
on the same day at school
but they were five years old
and in a month or two
will not remember me at all
while I am now past seventy
and will remember them both
for the rest of my life.

ii.
Waves break rock into sand
over eight or nine million years
while we return to dust
in a handful of decades
and foolishly think it forever.
