Writing A Lot, Posting A Little

January 29, 2024
In recent months I am occupied by writing new poems and searching for publishing opportunities for a completed manuscript; I pray the best path forward will soon make itself known. Self-publishing is a wonderful thing – Walt Whitman self-published ‘Leaves of Grass’ and wrote anonymous reviews to promote the book – but I seek other options. I want to write poems, not become a bookseller. There are thousands of independent bookstores – sadly, not as many as there once were – staffed by expert booksellers. I want to write the poems and let the experts sell the books. What’s missing here? The publisher, obviously. I’ll keep trying my best. Any ideas? I’d love to hear from you.

I find myself writing about aging recently, not surprising when considering that I celebrated my 69th birthday earlier this month. My mother was fond of the saying “Old age is not for sissies,” and I have learned how true that sentiment can be over the past few years.

SENIOR MOMENTS

we laugh when neither of us
can pull the word from our brain
but when I shout “Pickleball!”
it’s funny as hell until
I’m alone at night
and looking over my shoulder
for more signs of the thief

  1. “Old age is not for sissies,” – so true! I say this as well. Her wisdom lives on. And I like this week’s poem. If it makes you feel any better, I’m not yet 40 & regularly forgetting words too 🙂

  3. I can relate to every line!! I don’t know much about poetry – so far only you & Robert Frost have captured my attention. This blog is “publishing” your work. Think about just asking everyone you know to subscribe & pass it on to 3 other people.
